What she loves to prepare, more than any other delicacy, is tarte tatin.
Butter melts in the glass container.
She pours grains of brown sugar into it, in the silence of the thin, icy rain.

Its scent wafts into the room, echoes in the porch, travels to the driveway.
Cooked apples and cinnamon sticks fade into the scent of puff pastry.
Then come the caramel, almonds, and vanilla, powerful aromas that linger into the evening.

Antoine’s daughter Jany brings with her the fragrance of his recipes: cakes, madeleines and cookies.
